Attendance

Our Arkwright Attendance Champion:  Miss Stevenson

Children are required to attend school regularly and punctually. Please inform school on the first day of absence by calling through to the school office (01236234018), if there is no answer then please leave a voicemail. If we have not heard from you at the close of register then we will seek to establish contact with you as a parent to confirm your child's absence.

It is expected that children will attend all sessions. Any interruption to a child's absence may affect their progress and attainment. Guidelines have been issued to schools to indicate which absences can be authorised and these are usually for unavoidable reasons such as illness. Further details are available in school.

Holidays in term time
Holidays in term time are not permitted. If you wish to take your child on holiday during term time, you will need to request permission from the Headteacher by filling out and submitting a leave of absence request form.  Please use the link below to seek further information regarding the penalty notices that will be issued if you decide to take your child on holiday during term time.

We are constantly monitoring our attendance figures and our aim is to reduce absences and lateness to a minimum.  We appreciate the full co-operation of all parents and carers in reducing these figures.

So a child who has an attendance of 80% has missed 38 days of school and has missed 190 lessons.

Punctuality is also highly important. Pupils who arrive late to school are not only losing learning but also disrupting the learning of others as they arrive late for lessons.  Pupils do not like being late into school and we witness how upsetting it can be for them.  We want to prevent this.

We want to help families get their child to school on time.  Here are some things you can try:

  • Have everything you/your child needs for school prepared the night before

  • Ensure that your child goes to bed reasonably early so they are not too tired to get up in the morning

  • Ensure your child has a good night’s sleep by minimising their use of devices at bed time.

  • Have a consistent bedtime routine for your child

  • Set an alarm to allow plenty of time for your morning routine in getting to school on time

Thank you for your support.  I hope we can make improvements to attendance and punctuality.
